Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)

Eden Archology (LA)Q. What is NeoPangea?

A. NeoPangea is the role-playing group that is playing a virtual campaign over the Internet.

Q. Who is eligible to join?

A. Anyone in the world who has the required tools and commitment to participate with other players using the English language.

Q. Where is NeoPangea's campaign set?

A. The campaign is set in 2280 on the continent of North America where hundreds of years have passed after Mother Nature's Revenge eradicated most of the world's population, reclaiming Gaia as her own and where alien-derived species live side by side, uneasily in some places, with humans.

Q. Where can I learn more about NeoPangea?

A. You can learn more about NeoPangea by visiting the website at neopangea.net and by visiting the Alpha Omega community forums.

Q. Who do I contact if I want to join or ask any questions not covered by the F.A.Q.?

A. You can contact Myridean either through PMs on the AO community forums, the NeoPangea forums or via email at myridean @ neopangea dot net.

Q. Is the campaign limited to non-Evolutionary species?

A. No, however if you choose to play a Seraph or an Orphanum, you may want to play another character as Orphanum and Seraph aren't introduced to the Alpha Omega universe until the year 2283 which will be the next campaign.

Q. Where does the inspiration for the story for NeoPangea come from?

A. The campaign for NeoPangea was originally a novel that was a work-in-process that was started by Myridean about ten years ago. The story was about a young woman growing up on a commune hundreds of years after a vicious and virulent flu had infected the world, leaving only six percent of those who were able to develop the necessary antibodies to the phage to survive and later create a new utopian society. Without the necessary numbers of people to support the infrastructure of the 21st century, Gaia reclaims dominance of Earth's landscapes through climate change and natural disasters that is called NeoPangea.

Q. What tools are required to play this virtual campaign?

A.  What you will need to play is a copy of the Alpha Omega Core Rulebook and a couple of sets of gaming dice ranging from d4s (four sided dice that look like little pyramids) to d20s (dice that look like icosahedrons). The manual is currently available for purchase online at the Alpha Omega's store while the dice you can get in any gaming store. You can also speak with your local gaming store retailer about ordering a manual through them. This book will contain most if not all the information you need to create your character and how to play the game.

As for the virtual campaign hosted at NeoPangea's website, there's a bit of a twist as the players are online, scattered all over the world in different time zones. To add to that challenge, they may not be situating their characters in the same city although it would make my job easier as GM to have them at least start on the same continent. Although I will probably try to hold real-time events over the Internet, most story development will be highly influenced by character development. Experience is gained through not just through combat situations but also through character's personal interaction and involvement in the main story as well as the stories of others. How much interaction will be left to the players but through the use of in-character threads in a forum; character blogs like Regina; and/or IM interaction among players to the point where they could be using Live Action Role-play (LARP) using several multimedia programs and Alternate Reality Gaming (ARG) techniques, i.e. Skype, the player will be able to have lots of flexibility on how they want to role-play their character. In the end, the more you put into the game, the more you will be rewarded through Character Development Points (CDP) that can be spent on developing your character.

Q. What is the first campaign?

A. The first campaign when NeoPangea launches will be "Milk Run", a short campaign of one or two sessions to determine how comfortable people are with the game and the technology to RP their characters in a virtual environment.

Q. How frequent will the RPG meet?

A. The time and day is yet to be determined as it depends on the availability and level of commitment of both the GM and its players but probably after a series of polls as well as finding out how long a session's duration should be. I would expect the whole group participating in a real time event at least once a month. For the rest of time however, independent interactions amongst the players are encouraged between meetings.

Q. How is the NeoPangea universe different from the Alpha Omega one?

A.  Although there will be items, terminology and creatures, etc., that might digress from the Alpha Omega universe, the world-at-large is based heavily on AO's universe that can be found in the Alpha Omega Core Rulebook. What makes this upcoming campaign unique, as it will be told through the voice of the Storyteller who is the in-character avatar of the GM. She is located in a fertile region outside of the region AO calls the Great Wastes where she speaks a translated version of the language, Outsider, that is different from the global communication standard of the Net, English. Some words in Outsider may not have the same name in English or that they may in fact, be unique items to the campaign.Wolverine

Q. If textual role-play is only required, why is there a listing of software applications on the Tools page of the NeoPangea website?

A. For this answer, please read the preamble on the Tools page of the NeoPangea website.

Q. What is the role of the Storyteller/GM?

A. The GM of the AO campaigns is not only the facilitator but also the negotiator, judge and chronicler of the campaigns.
